U3A is a shared experience.  All of us at Browns Bay U3A play our part during the year – we may be Committee members, Convenors, or special interest group members, and we all play our part in making sure that our monthly meetings go smoothly.  We all take our turn serving morning tea, moving seating, greeting newcomers and enjoying fellowship and mental stimulation.

About to retire?

With U3A you can plan to work at living,

rather than living to work!

Each member makes a contribution in keeping with

their particular skills, ability and knowledge..

Peter Laslett a founder of U3A in UK in 1981 said:-

those who learn shall also teach.

Creating a national goal  - every child wanted and nurtured

Town planner and architect Jason Evans explained the comprehensive Auckland Council’s Draft Browns Bay centre plan. Council’s objective is to make local centres strong, sustainable, pedestrian and cycle friendly while increasing population density in and around them. The BB basin has a well-defined topography and excellent community assets (especially the village green, Leisure Centre and library). The village green could have more leisure / play activities for children introduced. Physical improvements need implementing e.g. to street paving and the currently unattractive Beach Road. There were comments and questions from members about parking availability, building heights, future use of publicly owned land and the likelihood of implementing the plan.   Denise de Groot
