U3A is a shared experience.  All of us at Browns Bay U3A play our part during the year – we may be Committee members, Convenors, or special interest group members, and we all play our part in making sure that our monthly meetings go smoothly.  We all take our turn serving morning tea, moving seating, greeting newcomers and enjoying fellowship and mental stimulation.

Welcome to U3A Browns Bay

Are you in need of mental stimulation and want to have fun and keep the grey matter working?

New Zealand Opera was represented by Andrew Gordon, Audience Engagement Coordinator, and Joanne Cole, Head of Education.  NZ’s first opera performance was in Dunedin in 1862. The Auckland and Wellington companies amalgamated in 2000, joined by Canterbury in 2012, forming NZ Opera. They have staged 50 main productions with the latest, the musical “Sweeney Todd”, attracting many young people.  NZ Opera has extensive and impressive educational outreach through schools’ programmes with attendance growing 4-fold in 4 years from 4,645 to 17,500. Performance scholarships, emerging artists programmes, stagecraft workshops and work experience internships are offered to young people.  Operas by NZ composers are commissioned.  The varied and exciting 2017 programme was described.  What a wonderful contribution NZ Opera makes to NZ’s cultural life!                     Denise de Groot
